Local Rundown: Chino Valley spikers sweep rival Camp Verde, move to 6-2

CHINO VALLEY – Playing the second of three matches in successive nights on Wednesday, Sept. 28, Chino Valley High’s volleyball team swept county rival Camp Verde for the second time this season.

At the Cougars’ main gym, Chino won 25-5, 25-12, 25-19. Katryna Davis registered 10 kills and three service aces, and Jacelynn Clements tallied eight kills and three aces, leading 3A Conference No. 10-ranked Chino to a sixth win in its first eight power-point matches of the 2016 campaign.

Also standing out for the hosts were Josie Cutlip with 21 assists, five aces and five kills, and Kylee Tiedeman with 15 digs and two aces.

The Cougars (6-2 overall record, 1-0 in the 3A West Region), who swept River Valley on Tuesday, welcome Odyssey Institute (7-2 overall, 1-0 region) to CVHS’s main gym for a 3A West Region match at 6 p.m. today, Sept. 29.

Camp Verde (1-7 overall, 1-1 region) of the 2A Conference will visit Glendale Prep for a Central Region clash at 6 tonight.

Crosstown Battle Against Breast Cancer Oct. 5 at Embry-Riddle

PRESCOTT – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s volleyball team will play host to Yavapai College in the annual Crosstown Battle Against Breast Cancer match at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Eagle Gym in Prescott.

Admission is $5 per person, although it will be free for those who buy a Battle Against Breast Cancer T-shirt for $10.

All proceeds generated from the match will go to benefit Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott and Prescott Valley.
